    By:Kenneth True

Bourbon County is a 10th region power in baseball, consistently battling other powers such as Clark County and reigning state champion Harrison County for the region crown. Bourbon has yet to take down one of the big boys when it matters however one player hopes to change that. Chase Mullins is a 6'7 220 lbs. 1B/P prospect who has just committed to the University of Kentucky.

Chase says "Louisville was the only one that called Coach (Nelson) Farris, but I got mail from lots of schools, wanting me to come look at their programs." Mullins also noted "One thing about baseball is when you verbal the rest sort of leave you alone."

Mullins says "I chose Kentucky because I wanted to play in the SEC and this is home, where else would a Kentucky boy want to play." Mullins comes from a family who knows the game having a cousin, Jonathan Mungle who played at Mississippi State, Bob Welch who won the American League Cy Young in 1990, as well as being a member of three World Series champions as either a player or a coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers,Oakland A's, and Arizona Diamonbacks. If that isn't enought family baseball history Mullins father was also drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of high school.

Chase batted .468 last season and had a 0.00 ERA during Bourbon County's post-season run which ended in the 10th region championship at the hands of the state champions of Harrison County.

When Mungle played at Mississippi State, Chase says his family would go and watch him play against the Wildcats. Chase isn't scared of competition and says "I know they're recruiting a lot of Kentucky players and are building one heck of a team." One guy Mullins says he'd like to see join him at Kentucky is Montgomery County's Sam Lee, who Mullins says "is the real thing."

As for his future team mates he says "I have already met the Shepard kid from Lawrence County, he has committed to Kentucky." Mullins also says "I got invited to an Area Code Tryout for the White Sox and met this kid from Indiana, A.J. Reed and he has committed to Kentucky." Both Shephard and Reed are 2011 guys, who Mullins is looking forward to playing with.

Mullins says "To be a Wildcat for me is a dream. At 16. to know that your gonna get to go to your favorite school is a huge relief as a junior." As or making a early decision Mullins adds "I can play high school baseball for two more years, and not have to worry about if I'm going to get a scholarship. I can just have fun."
