UFC on FOX 4: Shogun VS Vera Preview

By: Brandon Quillen (@SX_BWQ on twitter)
Shogun Rua (20-6, 17 KOs) VS Brandon Vera (12-5 1 NC, 7 KOs) | Light-Heavyweight
Dana White has announced that the winner of this fight, will be next in line to fight the winner of the upcoming Jon Jones/Dan Henderson Title Fight. I don't think Vera has earned this chance, but if he's able to outstrike Shogun I'll be okay with it. They both have the same Muay Thai fighting style, but Shogun's skill is far superior to that of Vera. Everything that Vera is good at, is something Shogun does better than anyone in the world.
Prediction: Shogun by 2nd rd KO in emphatic fashion!
Lyoto Machida (17-3, 6 KOs) VS Ryan Bader (14-2, 7 KOs) | Light-Heavyweight
This is the ultimate clash of styles, Karate vs Wrestling. Bader, an All-American at Arizona State, isn't one dimensional though. He has very strong hands and isn't a wild striker as many of his wrestling counterparts are. Machida is the best Karate fighter in the world, but he didn't look good against Jon Jones.
Prediction: Machida by 3rd rd KO to regain his confidence.
Joe Lauzon (21-7, 17 Subs) VS Jamie Varner (20-6-1 1 NC, 11 Subs) | Lightweight
Joe Rogan said it best, "Jamie Varner is back, ladies and gentleman!" after Varner defeated Edson Barboza. However, Joe Lauzon will be a stiffer challenge. Lauzon is one of the best BJJ practitioners in the division. Varner has completed his epic rise back to stardom, with a 3 fight win streak.
Prediction: Jamie Varner by decision.
Mike Swick (14-4, 7 KOs) VS DaMarques Johnson (16-10, 8 Subs) | Welterweight
First off let me just say I'm glad to see Mike Swick back in the octagon! Waiting for him will be uber tough welterweight DaMarques Johnson. Johnson was on season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter and was the lone American finalist. This fight has the potential to be explosive as both men love to throw down.
Prediction: Swick by decision.
